Armed police rushed to a Leeds suburb this afternoon after reports a man had been seen with a gun.

There was a large police presence on Edinburgh Terrace and Town Street in Armley after emergency calls were made just before midday on Saturday.

The suspect was thought to be in possession of a handgun, but police have now confirmed that it was not a working weapon.

A 24-year-old man was arrested.

In a statement on their Leeds Inner West page on Facebook, West Yorkshire Police have reassured the public that they were not at risk during the incident:-

"At no time were any members of the public in danger. The weapon was not a fully functioning firearm, and as such could not have caused any physical injury to anyone, although obviously caused concern, and fear to those that called in the incident. Our thanks go out to the people that called us."
