School children across West Yorkshire have been given a first-hand insight into life in the police and fire services.

West Yorkshire Police’s CHOICE programme has seen children from Pontefract and Knottingley tour police stations, courts and wield fire hoses over recent weeks.

The 30-week course for nine to 11-year-olds aims to give children goals to aspire to, increase school attendance and boost confidence, while offering public safety messages around stranger danger and cyber crime.

CHOICE, which is backed by several partner organisations, is now set to be rolled out across Wakefield.
