A FORMER Leeds school could be converted into a new housing development.

Leeds-based Rushbond Group and Advent Developments have submitted a planning application to turn the Upper Wortley School building into 49 houses.

The plans propose to convert the Grade II-listed building into 13 houses and to build 36 new family homes in the grounds.

Planning consent had previously been granted for an apartment-based scheme.

If the revised scheme is approved, work could start this year.

Jonathan Maud, Rusbond managing director, said: “Upper Wortley School was a much-loved part of the local community for many generations and we are keen to see it brought back to life.”
