PLANS have been submitted to turn an empty unit on an industrial estate in Armley into a two storey private swingers’ club.

Leeds City Council planning chiefs are set to consider the application to create a health club with alternative therapies and “private functions, for example swingers” at the unit on Station Way.

The applicant, who does not want to be named, told the YEP she has run a similar set-up in Durham for the past seven years, working closely with the council, police and community, and hopes to do the same in Leeds.

She said the business focuses on “a very discreet niche in an expanding area due to the more tolerant views of the general public” and she has chosen the location to have minimum impact on the community.

“The business will bring jobs and visitors to the local area. We are responsible and reasonable and have a good reputation,” she said, adding: “We also run events that include, but are not limited to, social events for transgender.

“The premises in Leeds, if permission is granted, is hoping to cover other areas such as hypnotherapy and training events for small businesses.”

The application says the club would provide no alcohol, but will allow members to bring their own, and plans to offer a spa area, playrooms, bar and coffee area.

It says: “We do not allow nakedness in public areas. Other than that, what people do is up to them, be it chat, drink, laugh or play, we do not interfere or influence in any way.”

It adds: “The club provides a venue for bringing together people with the same interests and in a safe and monitored environment.”

Documents state the private members’ club - open to over 23-year-olds, by application - would be open four nights a week and would employ between five and eight part-time and full-time staff.

The application asks for the health club’s hours of opening to be Monday to Friday, 10am to 2am, Saturday 10am to 3am and Sunday 10am to midnight.

It comes after councillors on the planning panel last month approved a similar application by Isis Health Studios, to convert a former car sales garage on Low Road, Hunslet, into a private members club for swingers, offering a “controlled” environment for “like-minded adults to meet and potentially engage in legal sexual activities”.
