Living in a city as vibrant and busy as Leeds means we often forget that we are home to one of the finest collections of weaponry in the country.

The Royal Armouries is a triumph of a museum, featuring artefacts from Japan, Africa, America and the United Kingdom.

One of its crowning glories is its Hall of Steel featured here as the main image.

The grand stairwell consists of mainly 17th century armour and 19th century military equipment and is home to more than 2,500 objects.

It represents the largest mass display of arms and armour since the 19th century.

Part of its unique charm is the reenactments of periods of history using trained actors, reliving great battles.
