Ali Al-Ansari committed the offences when he was allowed to sleep on the sofa at the property in Leeds as he had nowhere to stay.

Leeds Crown Court heard officers went to the house on January 28 last year after receiving information. Anthony Dunne, prosecuting, said: “The laptop computer was found near to the sofa that he was using as a bed.” The device was analysed and 78 indecent images and movies were discovered. A total of 22 images and movies were at category A - the most serious level.

Mr Dunne said images featured children under the age of ten being abused.

Al-Ansari, of Shakespeare Towers, Burmantofts, refused to comment during a police interview. He told a probation officer that he had no sexual interest in the images.

He pleaded guilty to three offences of making indecent images of a child. Giles Grant, mitigating, said Al-Ansari now accept responsibility for his actions and was prepared to receive treatment to address his offending.

He was made the subject of a three-year community order, during which he must take part in a sex offender treatment. He must go on the sex offender register for five years.

Recorder James Baird said: “I have to think how best to protect the public in the future.

“Given that these are first offences, any immediate sentence that I pass upon you is likely to be short in duration and you would not have any assistance whatsoever.”
