Two friends who have both lost a parent to cancer are set to cycle more than 800 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats in August to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

Joanne Walsh, 46, of Micklefield, lost her mum Christine Jackson aged 65 to ovarian cancer in August 2013. Julie Smithies, 47, of Ledston Luck, Kippax, lost her father Alan Sanderson, 50, to bowel and lung cancer 16 years ago.

Mrs Walsh said: “Both my mum and Julie’s dad allowed doctors to test new drugs on them in their final days to help others. We both thought if they could have that attitude then we should also do something to help.” To donate, go to www.justgiving.com/joanne-walsh2014V
