These dedicated young lifesavers could be the difference between life and death.

And they are backing the Yorkshire Evening Post’s First Aid For All campaign to teach basic first aid skills to hundreds of people in Leeds.

Around 25 youngsters meet every week in west Leeds to learn basic first aid skills.

The Armley and Wortley Combined Cadets unit can often be found keeping a watchful eye for emergencies at events across the city.

One of the young cadets was even on hand to help a youngster who split his head open and helped to administer first aid at the scene.

And cadet unit leader Steve Banks praised their lifesaving efforts.

He said: “They are just brilliant and I couldn’t ask for a better team and nicer bunch of people to work with. They are all dedicated and there is a great sense of camaraderie.”

The YEP has teamed up with St John Ambulance to teach basic lifesaving skills to 500 readers in Leeds.

We revealed that nearly half of parents in Leeds would not know how to help their child in an emergency.

The campaign, which is almost half way to reaching its target, has received widespread support from across the city.

Steve added: “I would say it is extremely important to learn first aid.

“You could save someone’s life.

“It could be your brother’s, sister’s or even your parents.”
