This was the moment thieves filmed themselves stealing a scarecrow from a church – before uploading the video on social media.

Organisers of a village festival have been left stunned after a 10-second clip emerged on Facebook of the scarecrow being pinched in broad daylight. It was among five scarecrows which had been dotted around St Mary’s Church in Knutton as part of the week-long event. Now the Reverend Maureen Tideswell has called on the culprits to return the scarecrow, which had been dressed to look like a chorister. Maureen, who has been at the church for five years, said: “I went out on Sunday afternoon to look at the other scarecrows people had made, but when I came back a couple of hours later the chorister had gone. It wasn’t until the next day when a friend came to visit and brought the news the theft had popped up on Facebook.”
