Ginger, a four-year-old male Cocker Spaniel, grasped commands in the notoriously difficult language by visiting classes with its profoundly deaf owner.

Neil Smith, 67, said he couldn’t believe how quickly his furry friend learned to understand the native tongue of his great-grandmother.

The clever pooch has encouraged him to continue going to weekly classes at his local church which has boosted his self-confidence and improved his social life.

The gigantic Great Dane lives with Vinnie and Dixie and their three children Francesca, 11, Gloria, four, and two-year-old Tyrion at their detached home in Gedling, Nottingham.
