THEY’RE first on the scene when an ambulance is called – and now we want to honour the region’s top emergency workers.

A new category for emergency response worker of the year has been added to this year’s Yorkshire Evening Post Best of Health Awards.

We want to highlight the staff who carry out lifesaving tasks as they respond to emergencies.

In this category, sponsored by Rainbow Windows, we want to hear about the fantastic ambulance workers who deserve to be praised.

They could be paramedics or other emergency response workers in the health field, or even those working behind the scenes or on non-emergency vehicles.

Nominations are welcomed from anyone for staff who go above and beyond the call of duty.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service has welcomed the new category, saying it is a great way to promote the “tremendous efforts” of staff.

Dr David Macklin, deputy medical director at Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust, said: “We very much welcome the addition of an emergency
response worker category to
the YEP Best of Health Awards which will recognise the tremendous efforts of frontline ambulance staff in caring for patients when they find themselves in
the most vulnerable of situations.

“Recognition of our staff for their commitment, dedication and excellence is very important to us and we are proud of the extraordinary lengths they go to day in, day out to ensure they deliver the best possible patient care.”

In the third Best of Health Awards, we are looking for nominations in ten categories, including for top doctors, nurses and midwives.

We will also be recognising deserving dentists, fantastic pharmacists and terrific teams, as well as carers, unsung
heroes and mental health workers.

After the closing date of October 19, our panel of expert judges will draw up a shortlist for each category and will pick the winners, based on information provided in the nominations.

One of the nominees who especially impresses the panel will also given the Overall Judge’s Award.

All the shortlisted nominees will be invited to a glitzy
awards lunch on December 8, when the winners will be announced.
