WHEN Primark closed its doors in Leeds city centre earlier this year it got everyone talking.

People were gossiping about what could follow in its footsteps – and now we have an answer.

The huge site takes up a prime spot at the top of Briggate and had been home to big names in the past.

The well-known building was formerly the Paramount Theatre in 1932 and was the Odeon Cinema from 1940 to 2001.

Despite its many previous incarnations, there is another change on its way.

The site is now set to be a Sports Direct shop.

It might not be exactly what everyone was hoping for but it makes sense to see a big building like this being used rather than sitting there empty and falling into disrepair.

It also means there should be some jobs coming up, which isn’t something to be sniffed at these days.

This end of town will see some big changes soon with the Victoria Gate shopping centre well underway.

Let’s just hope this historic building sticks around whilst the city continues to adapt and change around it.
