SUPERFANS will be travelling back in time for a Knight to remember in Castleford.

The Xscape leisure complex will once again play host to the fantastic Knightcon event this September, which last time out saw an estimated 27,000 people flock to a spectacular showcase of all things eighties.

Last year’s event included the world’s largest assembly of replica KITT cars ever brought together.

The vehicle was made famous by iconic show Knight Rider, which saw David Hasselhoff take to the wheel of an artificially intelligent Pontiac Trans Am.

The Hoff himself even made a special guest appearance at last year’s Knightcon, where he was greeted by huge crowds.

The event has been put together by Leeds man Steve Fawcett and his friend Rob Ormondroyd, both huge fans of the cult show.

Both Steve and Rob have bought their own versions of the famous car and have pumped a fortune into transforming them into perfect replicas of the car featured on the show.

Steve, an engineer from Otley, told the YEP: “Last year we had three out of the four remaining cast and crew on stage, including David Hasselhoff, which has never been done before in the world.

“We also hosted the world’s largest gathering of Knight Rider cars along with all the famous TV and movie cars we all love. And we had the heroes and villains too.

“The event is free on the day too and with most of it being inside Xscape, even the UK weather can’t spoil it.”

The event originally started out with just a handful of fans in Wetherby.

But last year it attracted enthusiasts from as far away as the Netherlands, Italy, Croatia and the USA.

As well as the car from Knight Rider, other replicas in attendance last year included vehicles from The A-Team, Only Fools and Horses, The Dukes of Hazzard and Back to the Future.

Knightcon 2012 takes place at Xscape, off Junction 32 of the M62, on September 1.
