OAP badly hurt in crash at Stourton

A PENSIONER was seriously injured when the blue Vauxhall Zafira he was driving was involved in collision with a white Volvo lorry on Pontefract Road at Stourton this morning.

The accident happened just before 11am outside Arla Foods on Pontefract Road.

Firefighters cut the 67-year-old driver free from the wreckage of the Zafira.

He suffered suspected back and neck injuries and was taken to Leeds General Infirmary by ambulance.

Watch manager Tony Field of Hunslet Fire Station, said: “He was badly injured and was given oxygen at the scene. There was a lot of damage to the car – the rear of the vehicle was crushed.”

Pontefract Road was closed while the vehicles were removed.
