YORKSHIRE’S most inspiring women will be celebrated at a glittering awards ceremony in Leeds.
Around 700 guests will attend the YEP-backed Yorkshire Women of Achievement Awards at the Royal Armouries in Leeds on Friday, May 9.
The event, which is now in its 28th year, raises thousands of pounds for Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice and recognises the impressive achievements of inspiring local women.
Nominations are now open for five categories – Yorkshire Woman of Achievement in Business, Education, Sport, Young Achiever of the Year and the Jane Tomlinson Award for Courage.
This year, Jane Slimming, founder of Zeal Media in Leeds, has been nominated for the business award.
Jane realised she enjoyed the business world when she started selling hair scrunchies as a schoolgirl.
She went on to set up her own digital marketing company just after her 30th birthday.
Jane said: “I feel like all my achievements to date are down to the support, encouragement and time of other people; be that members of staff, friends and family or other people who have inspired me.
“I’m a real believer in paying that forward so I absolutely love it if I feel I can support or inspire any other individuals.
“Starting Zeal has been an absolute pleasure and taught me an immeasurable amount.
“There have been ups and downs but I never regretted taking the risk and I want other people, but especially young women, to know that they too can do it and to take advantages of all the opportunities out there.”
Nominations for the awards close on Monday, April 28.
