Inspirational teachers, unsung community champions and volunteers who go the extra mile to brighten their neighbourhoods.
These are just some of Leeds’s very own heroes who are gearing up to bag themselves a Grand prize.
The Yorkshire Evening Post has teamed up with Leeds City Council to offer the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for community champions to see the start of the Tour de France.
We are on the search for 15 people in Leeds who go above and beyond to help transform their local communities.
The lucky winners, plus a guest of their choice, will bag the ultimate Le Tour golden ticket - the chance to take their place alongside special guests at the grandstand on The Headrow to see some of the planet’s top cyclists in action at the city’s Grand Depart on July 5. As well as seeing the start of the world’s most watched annual sporting event, winners will get an unrivalled view of a spectacular parade of more than 180 floats ahead of the race.
Councillor Keith Wakefield, leader of Leeds City Council, said: “There’s now just over a month to go until the Grand Départ gets underway and the eyes of the world will be on Leeds.
“We’ve decided to take this once-in-a-lifetime chance to say thank you to some of our unsung heroes. Nominees could include someone who works for a local community group, an inspiring teacher or just a dedicated individual who has gone the extra mile to make a difference in their local area.
“We want to make sure that some of the community champions who make such a fantastic contribution to our city have the chance to be in one of the best seats in the house on what will be a truly momentous day.”
To nominate someone to win a ticket, explain in no more than 150 words who you think should win and why.
Email nominations, including full name and contact details for your nominee, to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than Monday, June 16.
A special panel will then whittle the nominations down to the final 15, who will be notified in the week commencing June 23.
Winners must arrive at the event no later than 8am for their place in the special grandstand on the starting line.
