New £250,000 scheme proposed to revamp Leeds leisure centre pool

THE SWIMMING pool at Aireborough Leisure Centre in Guiseley could be set for a £250,000 facelift.

A Leeds City Council report states a proposed £250,000 project to retile the pool tanks is in addition to a £1.2m scheme to revamp the leisure centre and create a new comunity hub for council services.

The report to Leeds City Council’s director of city development recommends the pool retiling scheme is approved.

The pool was already due to close from around the middle of April to December while other improvment works take place at the leisure centre.

The council’s executive board previously rubber-stamped £1.2m proposals to revamp the centre and create a new community hub for council services.

Those plans include closing Guiseley Library and transferring services to the leisure centre.

The report states £200,00 from selling the library would be used to create a library facility as part of a new community super hub and cafe at Aireborough Leisure Centre at The Green, Guiseley. Community hubs provide information on services including council tax, benefits and housing and access to job shops.

Work would also be carried out to modernise the reception at the leisure
