Discount supermarket Netto is preparing for its return to the UK with the launch of its Leeds store.

Sainsbury’s has partnered with Netto’s Danish owners Dansk Supermarked to open 15 stores by the end of 2015, in an effort to bring a “fresh Scandinavian flavour” to the discount supermarket sector.

A new-look store will open at Moor Allerton Retail Park on November 6, with four more stores set to open in the run up to Christmas.

Netto withdrew from the UK in 2010, when Asda bought its stores for £778m.

Both Dansk and Sainsbury’s have invested £12.5m in the trial, which will lead to national roll out if successful.

Netto’s relaunch comes as German discount brands Lidl and Aldi experience a boom in popularity.
