For generations, festive pub-goers have often gathered around the bar to sing their favourite Christmas carols.
And now punters at an Ilkley pub will tune up to help raise money for the YEP-backed Sing For Your Hearts campaign which aims to raise money to support the work of charity Heart Research UK.
Carollers will gather at The Cow and Calf pub on the edge of Ilkley Moor on December 11 for a “magical and atmospheric” evening of singing under candlelight.
Landlady Amy Proctor said: “It’s a fantastic charity and I thought it would be magical to have people singing carols in the garden at the front of the pub with the doors open, as it would be both visual and atmospheric.
“The Sing for Your Heart campaign lends itself perfectly for this.”
The campaign, launched earlier this month, encourages individuals, music groups and performers across Leeds to stage their own singing events in December while fundraising to help Heart Research UK treat more people who live with heart disease.
Amy said they had already planned to arrange some carol singing at the pub, but when they heard about Sing for Your Heart it felt like a good cause to support.
Now she’s encouraging people to come along and join in the fun as well as raising money for the Leeds-based charity.
And holding your own singing event could not be easier – all you need to do is choose a date in December, pick your venue and raise money to help hearts near you.
Barbara Harpham, national director of Heart Research UK said: “Everyone can Sing for their Hearts, whether you’re in a band, choir or just partial to a bit of karaoke.
“It’s the perfect excuse to get together with friends, family and colleagues to have fun and raise money for Heart Research UK particularly in the run up to Christmas when everyone is feeling festive.”
