Families and visitors chugged away the weekend with special rides at a miniature railway.

The miniature trains, at Clark Spring Wood in Churwell, opened on Sunday and dozens of visitors took rides. It also featured an appearance from Mayor of Morley, Coun Bob Gettings. The miniature railway is run by the Churwell Environmental Volunteers group.

The volunteer-run group also works to preserve and improve the woodland area surrounding the tracks in Churwell.

Coun Robert Finnigan (Morley North) said: “These volunteers work tirelessly to improve their community and Churwell residents – as well as their elected representatives – appreciate the hard work they undertake week in week out. It was a delight to take a ride on the miniature railway which I can confirm managed to propel both me and Mayor Gettings around the track.”
