'˜Mindless' Vandals have struck again at a Leeds sports club which has been plagued by criminal damage.

The series of vandalism attacks including property damage and joyriding at Green Lane Cricket Club in Yeadon, stretches back to 2009.

And in the latest incident, yobs caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage after smashing windows and tampering with CCTV cameras overnight on Tuesday.

Thomas Powell, who has been the club groundsman for more than 30 years, said: “When I saw the damage I felt sick, I thought, ‘not again’.

“It makes you want to just pack up. I just feel we’re doing the work at the club for nothing, just to see mindless vandalism.”

The damage happened between 10pm on Tuesday and 9am on Wednesday at the Nunroyd Park ground.

It comes just days before the club’s next cricket match against Leeds Modernians on Saturday.

Mr Powell, 72, added: “Now we somewhow have to get the club sorted for the next game.

“We have had damage here for years on the trot now, we just want them to leave us alone.”

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police asked anyone with information to contact police on 101, quoting reference 13160385611.
