Families have a delicious summer treat in store – with the announcement of a massive new music and food festival for Leeds.

The two-day event, which will mix together top music stars, celebrity chefs, sporting legends and gardening greats, takes place at Harewood House in July.

Served up by Yorkshire supermarket giant Morrisons, it has been dubbed MFEST.

Among the music stars set to play throughout the weekend are current chart-toppers Cher Lloyd, Matt Cardle and Scouting for Girls. They will be joined by stars of yesteryear Texas, The Human League, The Farm, Bob Geldof, Inspiral Carpets and Paul Heaton.

The 15,000-capacity event will also see some of the country’s best chefs give culinary demonstrations: cooks already announced include Aldo Zilli, Nigel Haworth, Atul Kochhar, Pierre Koffmann and Bryn Williams.

Entertainment for younger visitors will include special play and food zones, plus they can pitch in to help celebrity gardener Diarmuid Gavin at the Let’s Grow Patch.

The event, the first of its kind, aims to raise money for Morrisons’ Raise a Smile appeal, which hopes to bring in £500,000 for Save The Children.

Richard Hodgson, Morrisons group commercial director, said: “MFEST will be a unique addition to the festival market with not only a glittering array of entertainment for all ages, but a brand new, reinterpretation of festival food: from fantastic gourmet meals, to on-the-go treats, to live demos and interactive stalls for everyone to get involved and get creative.

“We are incredibly excited to be the lead sponsor with such an incredible line-up planned and thrilled that our food will be keeping the crowds going at the inaugural MFEST experience.”

Tickets to the event, which takes place on July 7 and 8, go on sale at 10am on March 9. Gates open at 11am with the first act on stage at 1pm.

Adults pay £49.50; 11 to 16-year-olds £25, while children under 10 get in free (one child per paying adult).

A donation of £5 from each ticket will go to the Raise a Smile appeal. For more details or tickets, go to www.themfest.com, ticketline.co.uk, or call 0844 888 9991.
