Men locked up for attacking rough sleeper in Leeds

Dwayne Senior, 33, of Ashton View, Harehills, was sentenced to 17 months in prison, and Calum Lang, 22, of Fewston Avenue, Leeds, was sentenced to six months in a young offenders institute, after they both pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm.

The victim, a 30-year-old man, was asleep on a makeshift bed under the railway arches on April 22 last year when Senior and Land, accompanied by two other men, entered the arches to take drugs.

The man was awoken by Lang and Senior who were kicking him and stamping on his face repeatedly.

The victim managed to raise the alarm before being taken to hospital where he spent three days receiving treatment for his injuries.

British Transport Police investigated the incident and speaking after Senior and Land were sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on Monday, Detective Constable Rory Durant said: “The victim sustained bruising to his face and ribs, and lost consciousness during the attack. He was extremely lucky that despite the violent and sustained attack on him by Lang and Senior, he didn’t sustain more serious injuries.

“Both men were arrested near the scene following the attack and were charged with actual bodily harm.

“This was a shocking and callous attack on a vulnerable man, both men are now where they belong, behind bars.”
