A pair of superslimmers from Leeds are jumping for joy after shedding a total of 19 stone between them and transforming their lives in the process.
Nicola Shirley and Georgina Daykin have both lost nine-and-a-half stone each after overhauling their diets and scrapping fatty meals in favour of healthy, home-cooked dinners.
The pair - both members of the Slimming World group at Bramley Baptist Church - were both West Yorkshire finalists in the company’s Woman of the Year contest, with Nicola now being selected to represent the region at the national semi-finals next month. Nicola, 43, has gone from tipping the scales at 20st 11lbs and a dress size 24 to now weighing 11st 7lbs and halving her dress size to 12.
For her, it was the fear of getting on a plane by herself at the size she was, to fly to her brother’s wedding in America, which triggered the desire to lose weight. She said: “I didn’t want to be in that situation on my own. I felt I’d walk on the plane and people would think ‘I hope she’s not sitting next to me’. It was also going to be the first time I’d seen my brother in about a year and I wanted to feel better about the wedding pictures.”
She says her pre weight-loss diet consisted of skipping breakfast, having sandwich and crisps or anything from the canteen for lunch and ready meals for dinner. She said: “Now I have completely changed my lifestyle. I cook from scratch, make all my meals fresh - I’ve changed how I think about food. I feel ten times better. I have so much more energy. I have a dog and before I never used to take it for a walk but now we walk five miles a day. I’m determined to keep it off now, definitely.”
Lisa Jennings, who runs Bramley Slimming World group, said: “The changes we’ve seen in Nicola and Georgina are incredible – as are they. I hope their success will inspire others to lose weight by forming new lifestyle habits and become happier and healthier.”
