McFly star films video of Leeds fire after being caught in roadblock

McFly star Tom Fletcher has been caught up in the Holbeck fire drama while visiting Leeds.

The singer posted a video on Instagram of his driver taking a diversion on Whitehall Road after police closed the street due to the huge inferno, with huge clowds of smoke visible in the background.

Fletcher was in the city for a signing of his new children’s book, The Christmasaurus, at WHSmith on Lands Lane.

“Unbelievable smoke coming from the fire in Leeds right now. Hope everyone is OK.”

The fire took hold at the old Polestar Petty premises on Whitehall Road at around 12.45pm today. Thick clouds of smoke can currently be seen billowing from the roof of the site. A section of the building’s roof is also ablaze.

The factory closed at the end of 2014, nearly 150 years after Petty & Sons first began operating on Whitehall Road.
