AN ELDERLY woman battled back after she was woken and attacked when two would-be robbers burst into her home in Hunslet in the early-hours.
The 76-year-old was asleep on the sofa in the living room at her home in Balmoral Chase when she was disturbed by a man wearing a balaclava just before 1am yesterday.
Police say she then noticed a second man going into her bedroom.
She tried to push the first man out of the living room, but he grabbed her by the throat.
She managed to force him out of the room and lock the door.
The men made an untidy search of the property and left. It is not believed anything was stolen.
Police said the men had snapped the front door lock to get in.
PC Paul Tyrer, of Leeds district neighbourhood crime team, said: “This was clearly a terrifying experience for this elderly victim to be attacked in her home by a masked man.
“We are conducting extensive enquiries to trace the men responsible and we would like to hear from anyone who saw these men acting suspiciously in the area or who has any information that could assist in identifying them.”
Both raiders are described as thin white men aged around 20 to 25 and around 5ft 9in tall.
The man wearing a balaclava was wearing dark clothing and the other man was dressed in navy blue coloured clothing.
