Police are looking for a man who tried to hit an off-duty officer with a metal bollard outside a pub at Leeds railway station.

The 28-year-old policeman was drinking with friends at Weatherspoons when a man and a woman walked past having a row.

PC Lauren McKenna, of British Transport Police (BTP), said: “The man then picked up one of the bollards outside the pub, grabbed the pole and began swinging it around.

“The victim approached the suspect, and attempting to defuse the escalating situation, asked the man to put the pole down before he hurt someone.

“The man then lunged forward at him and swung the pole which just narrowly missed the victim. He then threw the pole on the floor before leaving the station.”

The incident happened just after 8.30pm on Tuesday, August 4.

BTP have issued a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to.

Anyone with information should call 0800 405040 or text 61016, quoting reference PSUB/B5 of August 20.
