A man’s body was found by passers-by under a bridge in Leeds city centre today (Friday).

Emergency services were called to Crown Point Bridge, over the River Aire near the Royal Armouries, at about 12.30pm.

He was examined by paradmedics and confirmed to be dead at the scene.

Police said the man’s body had been recovered from under the bridge, and enquiries are continuing into the circumstances of his death, which is not thought to be suspicious.

There was some traffic disruption around the area while the recovery operation was underway.

“We have worked together with the Fire Service and Paramedics to recover the man’s body. The coroner has now been informed.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and we’re not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.”
