a man has fallen from a footbridge on to the M621 motorway in south Leeds.
The motorway initially closed both ways between junction two, at Elland Road, and junction three, near the city centre, following the incident today at around 2.30pm, before the westbound carriageway reopened at around 3.45pm.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed the injured man suffered severe injuries and has been taken to hospital, while officers try to determine his identity and inform his family.
Following work from contractors and West Yorkshire Police forensics teams the eastbound carriageway fully reopened at around 4.15pm. The incident has caused heavy traffic in both directions.
