POLICE say a crossbow was fired during an alleged attempted robbery of a pensioner in Wakefield.

Wakefield Police said a man armed with a crossbow approached the 73-year-old in the garden of his home in Lawfield Lane just before 1.30pm on Friday. The pensioner was not hurt in the incident.

A spokesman for Wakefield Central Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Many thanks to the victim’s neighbours, the victim himself and members of the public for their assistance during and after the incident.” A 40-year-old man was later arrested and remanded in custody after being charged with attempted robbery, common assault and possessing an offensive weapon.
