A 92-year-old man has died after being hit by a car in Wakefield.

The man suffered serious injuries in the incident which happened on Horbury Road just after 11.50am on Tuesday.

A silver Ford Fiesta was travelling towards Horbury and away from the city centre, when it collided with the man, who was crossing the road close to the junction with Cumbrian Way.

He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary by air ambulance but died in hospital on Tuesday night.

Police are appealing for information about the collision.

Detective Sergeant Ann Drury of the Major Collision and Enquiry Team, said: “Enquiries are ongoing into this incident which has resulted in a local man receiving very serious injuries from which he later died. 

“We would like to speak to anyone who saw the collision, or the car and pedestrian in the moments before it took place.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact the Major Collision and Enquiry Team via 101 quoting log number 0654.
