A 78-year-old man has been charged after a child was sexually assaulted in a Leeds supermarket.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident in which a 12-year-old girl, who was just out of view of her mother at the time, was sexually assaulted at Morrisons at the Penny Hill Centre, in Church Street, Hunslet, on Monday June 2 between 4.30pm and 5pm.

As part of the appeal, West Yorkshire Police are trying to trace a woman who may have witnessed the incident. She was described as being tanned, aged in her early forties with brown hair in a bobbed style and dressed all in black.

Detective Constable Laura Dovey, of Leeds District Safeguarding Unit, said: “I would like to speak to that person if they recognise themselves from the description and the time and date or from anyone who thinks they know who it might be.”

Anyone with information is asked to call DC 2171 Dovey at Elland Road on 101.
