The funeral of former Yorkshire Evening Post editor Malcolm Barker will take place next week.

Mr Barker, who died in his home town of Harrogate at the age of 84, was awarded an OBE for services to journalism in 1987.

During his 17-year stint as editor of the YEP, he launched the hugely successful Half and Half Appeal for the city’s hospices, St Gemma’s and Wheatfields.

His funeral takes place at Christ Church on the Stray, Harrogate, on September 29 at 1pm, followed by a gathering at nearby Cedar Croft Hotel.
