Love for prize bug at Leeds VW Festival boosts kids’ charity

A RECORD breaking £18,000 was raised for a children’s charity at the VW Festival in Leeds at the weekend.

The cash was raised at the VW Festival raffle for Yorkshire’s Cash for Kids charity during the event at Harewood House.

First prize was a lovingly restored VW Beetle, which has been brought back to life by Leeds-based Herbie Hospital.

More then 20,000 people visited the festival as car enthusiasts mingled with families and music fans.

Lisa Sullivan of Cash for Kids, said: “We can’t thank everyone enough, especially all those who came and gave so generously.”

The story of Ashley Thomas,  played by actor John Middleton, won a British Soap award.
