Lorry driver airlifted to hospital after HGV overturns near Leeds

A LORRY driver was airlifted to hospital today after his vehicle overturned near Leeds.

The incident happened at about 11am on the westbound carriageway of the A64, close to Bramham and junction 44 of the A1(M).

A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police said it was thought that the lorry had overturned after hitting the road’s central reservation.

The 39-year-old driver was freed from his cab by firefighters. His condition was serious but not thought to be life-threatening.

The road was closed following the incident and drivers were advised to avoid the area.
