Leeds Young People's Film Festival 2010: Programme released

Here's some blockbusting news for mums and dads worried about keeping their kids occupied during the Easter school holidays.

City council bosses today revealed that the 2010 Leeds Young People's Film Festival is running from March 29 to April 9.

Coinciding with the start of the Easter break, the junior movie extravaganza is being held this year for the 11th time.

And to make life even simpler for parents, all its screenings will take place at Hyde Park Picture House.

Film selections include a preview of the animated adventure How To Train Your Dragon on March 31

Made by the DreamWorks studio behind hits like Shrek and Kung Fu Panda, it tells the story of teenager called Hiccup as he prepares for life as a Viking warrior.

The film is based on the book of the same name by Cressida Cowell, who will be appearing at the screening to talk about her work.

A back-to-back showing of the first four Harry Potter, movies, pictured, on April 5, meanwhile, is due to be attended by cast member Chris Rankin, better known as Percy Weasley.

This year's programme also includes workshops at Leeds Town Hall and Leeds Central Library.

The festival is being organised by Leeds City Council and young film fans' group MediaFish.

Its supporters include Education Leeds, Leeds City College and Screen Yorkshire.

The council's executive member for leisure, Councillor John Procter, said: "We are delighted to welcome Cressida Cowell and the Harry Potter day is sure to be hugely popular."
