A leeds veteran rubbed shoulders with TV presenter Jonathan Ross at the launch of a new exhibition which brings to life stories of former servicemen and women.

Simon Brown, from Morley, was invited to the launch in London of ‘Message in a Bottle’ - an exhibition by whisky-makers Bell’s to mark raising £1m for charity Help for Heroes.

The installation, at the Display Gallery, features 40 empty bottles housing individual scrolls which share the experience of heroes and their families.

Simon, a former British Army soldier, was injured during his second tour of Iraq in 2003 when he was hit by sniper fire while recovering six colleagues whose vehicle had broken down. Help for Heroes provided him with support while he rebuilt his life and the chance to take part in various challenges. Lauren Wahlhaus, at Bell’s, said: “It’s been a humbling experience meeting all the veterans - not just in hearing all their inspirational stories but also the role funds from Help for Heroes have played in each of their recoveries.”
