Leeds supermarket customers set to raise thousands for charity in memory of store manager
Andy, who was the Meanwood store’s section manager, was cared for at the end of his life by St Gemma’s Hospice in Moortown.
In his memory his colleagues at the store and friends want to raise as much money as possible for the hospice.

Hide AdThe fundraising will be kick-started by a weekend full of activity in the branch.
On September 9 at 1.30pm there will be children from Meanwood CE Primary School singing, on September 10 at noon the store will host Victoria Sharp and her partner Graham Russell from Opera North and on September 11 at 1pm local choir Meanwood Sings will be blasting out the tunes.
Volunteers from St Gemma’s will be collecting donations from customers.
Sarah Thornton, the event organiser, who works at Waitrose in Meanwood, said: “It never fails to amaze me how the people and businesses of Meanwood and surrounding areas pull together to support such worthwhile charities.

“We really want this event to be a success so we can hand over a considerable amount to St Gemma’s as a thank you for the love and care they gave Andy and for the care they continue to give people to this very day. “
The weekend of fundraising is drumming up support for the main event, a charity auction on Saturday, September 24 at 7pm at Holy Trinity Community Hall in Meanwood.Tickets are £10 each and are available at the customer service counter at Waitrose.
