Wet and windy weather is set to arrive as Autumn finally blows into Leeds.

Severe weather alerts have been issued for Saturday with warnings of gales of up to 70mph and as much as 60mm of rain in some areas across England.

The grim forecast comes days after early figures indicated last month is set to be the driest September across the UK since records began in 1910.

The Met Office has warned “heavy and persistent” downpours are predicted in parts of southern Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England.

Drivers are being warned that the downpours could lead to surface water flooding in parts of the country.
