A LEEDS singer has released his debut single to help unite Sri Lankans around the world.

Saman Milroy, who is originally from Sri Lanka and now lives in Horsforth, aims to encourage peace, harmony and unity through the song Mother Lanka, which he wrote himself during a visit to his home country.

Former Leeds Trinity University student Saman said: “I was thinking about my beautiful country and how I could encourage Sri Lankans around the world to unite, work together and make peace.

“I started to write a song and by the time we landed, the lyrics were complete.”

The song has gained almost 5,000 hits on YouTube. Saman added: “My aim is for all 21 million Sri Lankans to listen to my song and embrace the message of peace and unity.”
