TWO Leeds hair salons have brushed off competition from more than 900 other snippers to make it through to the national finals of a prestigious competition.
Both Westrow at West Park and Cutting Room Creative (CRC) in Leeds city centre were announced winners of the women’s image section at the North Eastern Regional Final of the L’Oreal Colour Trophy Awards, which were held at Saviles Hall at Clarence Dock.
Four salons in total were chosen to go through to the national final, which will take place in London in May.
The L’Oreal Colour Trophy is the longest running event in the hairdressing calendar.
Steve Rowbottom, creative director of Westrow, said: “To have had seven entries make it through to the north eastern regional final was a fantastic achievement, but for Westrow West Park to take the top spot was the icing on the cake.”
CRC is celebrating a double win after already landed a place in the national final of the Mizani Afro Catwalk Look Award - a sister competition to the L’Oreal Colour Trophy that the salon won last year.
CRC also has two stylists through to the L’Oreal Young Colourist regional final, which is due to take on April 25 April in Manchester.
Their L’Oreal Colour Trophy winning creation was a head of demure brunette curls.
Salon owner Karen Dodds said: “The colour trophy is a competition that generates excitement and a buzz throughout the whole salon. “To win a place through to the grand final for the main colour trophy was a great experience.
“As we already have two entries through to the grand final in the Mizani category, and two through to the regional finals for young colourists, it’s going to be a very exciting event for the CRC team, we can’t wait.”
Westrow’s Lauren Eliott and Matthew Sutcliffe’s L’Oreal winning creation was a show-stopping blonde and lilac crop.
Other finalists were Rachael White and Hannah Mason from Westrow York; Ann-Marie Atkinson and Veronica Mcivor from Westrow 18 Thornton’s Arcade in Leeds; Stephan Hill and Sam Moorhouse from Westrow 4-6 Thornton’s Arcade; Nicola Hulatt-Richards and Jenny Pelter from Westrow Wetherby; and Tania Waring from Westrow Ilkley. Lucy Howden from Westrow 18 Thornton’s Arcade also reached the final in the Men’s Image Award category.
Contemporary at Yarm, and Ysalon at Newcastle-upon-Tyne are also through to the national final.
