The YEP got a sneak peek around the revamped 1976 hall within Leeds Kirkgate Market this week. It is due to open to the public on May 31.

First up is popular Indian street food offering Manjit’s Kitchen, serving up dishes such as paneer wraps and samosas.

Speaking to City Buzz, Manjit Kaur, owner of Manjit’s Kitchen, said: “I was surprised at the transformation – I didn’t expect it to be so big and spacious.”

Manjit and husband Michael Jameson have chosen the market for their first ever permanent venture.

Michael added: “We want to encourage as many people and good food traders to come here as possible.

“We wouldn’t be here if we didn’t think change was possible. It’s a new experience and we’re really excited.”

Joining Manjit’s Kitchen will be Vietnamese street food offering Banh and Mee, run by husband and wife team Mylinh Chiem and Sengy Tang.

Sengy said: “Everyone who lives in Leeds has memories of Kirkgate Market and with this new vibrant space we’re excited to bring in more people to the market who maybe haven’t been here in a while.”

Other new additions include specialist tea room Teapot, Turkish bakery Zm Zm, North African eatery Cafe Moor, Caribbean offering Jenny’s Jerk Chicken and the Yorkshire Wrap Company – serving up Yorkshire puddings with fillings such as a roast dinner.

Most of the new additions joining the revamped food hall will be open by June 4.

Good luck guys – we can’t wait to pay you a visit.
