Paul Childerson was arrested at his home in Middleton, Leeds, after sending a sexual image of a 14-year-old boy.

The horrified recipient of the message contacted police and they arrested Childerson at his home on Throstle Road, Middleton, in November last year

His mobile phone was seized and further evidence was found that he had sent images of child sexual abuse via Whatsapp. A total of 58 indecent images were found on the phone. Childerson was interviewed about the offending and he admitted accessing the images when he was drunk or had been taking drugs. He was released on bail but repeated his offending in March this year. Childerson installed a Facebook app on a mobile phone which had belonged to his mum and then used it to distribute another image. Childerson pleaded guilty to four offences of possessing indecent images of a child and four of distributing them.

Adrian Pollard, mititgating, said Childerson was disgusted with the way he had behaved and was sorry for what he had done.

The lawyer said the use of drink and drugs had lowered his moral standards. Childerson was sentenced to 20 months.

Judge Sean Morris said: “The aggravating feature in this case is that one of those distribution charges was done while on court bail for the very same offence. That shows to me that this interest you have in serious images of children being sexually abused was deep-seated.”
