A leeds-born national treasure will return to his home to appear as the guest of honour at a book festival.
Playwright and author Alan Bennett, who was born in Armley, will appear at the Leeds Big Bookend festival for ‘An Audience with Alan Bennett’.
The event is part of a season at the West Yorkshire Playhouse celebrating Bennett’s work. The venue will present a selection of his work, from full stage plays and autobiographical memoirs.
Fiona Gell, Co-ordinator of the Leeds Big Bookend, said, “The Big Bookend is all about celebrating Leeds’ rich literary heritage and its future talent.
“With book launches, author Q&As, spoken word and discussions with Leeds writers throughout the weekend, the Big Bookend has a fantastic line-up of events for the city to get involved with. Alan Bennett will be its pinnacle and the culmination of our festival.”
Alan Bennett will appear on Sunday June 8 at 2pm at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. To book visit www.wyp.org.uk or call the box office on 0113 213 7700.
