THE trains of the future will include crazy golf compartments and private pet carriages, if the imaginations of school children are anything to go by.

Personal pods, floor-to-ceiling transparent walls and robotic luggage racks are also on the wish lists of future travellers, according to Virgin Trains, who asked the youngsters to imagine what rail carriages would look like when they grow up.

The designs, including a winner by 13-year-old Luqman Hussain of Leeds, are somewhat removed from Virgin’s forthcoming ‘Azuma’ trains, which it will introduce on the east coast route from Leeds to London in two years’ time.

The company has created a series computer-generated images from six of the best children’s ideas, including this winning design by Luqman of carriages with floor to ceiling glass for optimum viewing for travellers.
