LIFE in Leeds is just champion when you’re a sports fan.

That’s the verdict delivered today following new research carried out by sports broadcaster ESPN and the University of Bath.

Their experts have ranked 49 places in the UK on quality of life for sports lovers using criteria such as success, history, value for money, venues and matchday atmosphere.

Leeds finished fifth nationwide and first of the seven towns and cities in Yorkshire that featured in the research.

Leeds was also named as the best place in the country to be a cricket or rugby league fan.

The University of Bath’s Prof Thomas Curran said today: “The results provide many fascinating things to consider for clubs and cities across the country that are looking to improve fan relationships.”
