Have your say

Since I last wrote, there’s been a lot to talk about in the world of the Leeds First Direct Arena.

On Thursday evening, we were delighted to win the title of Best New Venue in the World at the Stadium Business Awards. Judged by a panel of international experts, the arena beat of competition from huge projects such as new stadiums in France and the Olympic Opening venue from Sotchi. The team were all delighted.

Friday last week saw further announcements for what’s going to be happening at the spectacular Tour de France opening ceremony here at the arena on July 3rd. With Embrace, Hope and Social, Pauline Vasseur and 120 of the world’s best cyclists, it’s going to be a night to say “I was there”.

On Saturday, we welcomed the Woman’s Institute as thousands of ladies arrived in Leeds from around the UK to discuss current issues and ways in which their organisation can benefit their local communities.

Inspiring stuff and great to have the large national conferences starting to arriving in Leeds.

On Monday it was a day of announcements. We announced that one of the nations favourite comedians, Michael McIntyre will be performing a series of festive dates here in 2015. Tickets go on sales on Friday.

Then in the afternoon we announced another guitar rock legend would be visiting - the Grammy Award winning Jack White. Tickets for Jack’s visit in November also go on sale this Friday.

The rest of the week is being spent preparing for the arrival of Robbie Williams on Monday and then a big week of gigs.

Those gigs will include Robbie Williams, as stated above, who, incidentally, will be the first major act to stage a two-night performance at the world’s number one entertainment venue.

Later the same week, on Friday June 20, Leeds First Direct Arena will play host to international superstar and Country and Western singing icon Dolly Parton, a legend in her own lifetime.

As if that wasn’t enouhg, on Saturday it’s the turn of the Osmonds and David Essex, while Sunday will see guitar supremo Eric Clapton take to the stage.

Combined with a number of recent announcement from headline entertainers, including former Guns N’ Roses frontman Slash, who will perform at the arena with his band The Conspirators on Saturday November 29. Joining him on lead vocals will be Alter Bridge frontman Myles Kennedy.
