A family from east Leeds has been named the most money savvy in the UK after saving a staggering sum of £1,035 in just six weeks.
Charmaine and David Staniforth and their two sons Oliver, eight, and Charlie, three, beat 2,000 other entrants to win the Nectar Savvy family competition by showing their money-saving prowess.
The family from Colton have bagged £10,000 worth of prizes, including a family holiday, a £1,000 Sainsbury’s gift card, £1,000 to spend on eBay, a £500 Homebase gift card, a television, iPod nano, Nectar points and more.
To win the competition, the Staniforth family went head to head in a blogging competition with seven other finalists.
The family spent six weeks sharing their money saving tips online, giving advice on everything from shopping trips and days out to going on holiday and dealing with all of the household bills.
The family came up with an impressive 89 top tips to help members of the public save some money.

“For us it’s not about missing out or being tight, but making our money do more and to be recognised as the Nectar Savvy Family winners because of that is just brilliant.”
She added: “What we love most about our savvy lifestyle is the fact that we’re teaching our boys a skill for life.”
Property television presenter, Sarah Beeny, joined the founder of LetsSaveMoney.com, Sarah Willingham, to judge the competition and the pair were particularly impressed with the Staniforth family.
Sarah Beeny said: “The standard of the blogs this year has been amazing.
“There have been some really unusual tips which is great and they have covered ways to be savvier with money whatever the family’s situation is, and there are tips here that everyone can use.
“However, the Staniforth family really proved they go the extra mile to be savvy in their everyday life and totally deserve the title of Nectar Savvy Family 2014.”

Top tips from the Staniforths
Here are just a few of the Staniforth family’s top tips to help you save £1,000 in six weeks:
- Check the television schedule before putting items up for sale on eBay – a popular show could affect how much that prized pre-loved possession could make the family.
- Take back empty containers from luxury cosmetics – some stores offer discounts or free products just for recycling them.
- Using a soap scrunchie will dramatically reduce the amount of shower gel and soap used, helping it to last longer and save on the shopping bill.
