A fundraiser who was diagnosed with epilepsy in September has run the Virgin Money London Marathon faster than Paula Radcliffe.

Joe Townsend, from Woodlesford, finished the 26.2km run in the eleventh fastest amateur time overall of two hours and 23minutes on Sunday – a full 13minutes quicker than the distance running icon.

Seven months ago the 25-year-old radio journalist woke up at work with an IV in his arm after his first seizure. He has raised over £5,700 for Epilepsy Action so far.

Joe, who was running his first marathon, said: “It was crazy, I’m still getting my head around it all.”
