A new app being launched in Leeds looks set to prove a blockbusting hit with film fans.

Filmies will give people personalised recommendations when they are trying to decide on a movie to view at home or while they are out and about.

Users simply click on a series of tags to describe what they feel like watching and back comes some celluloid suggestions.

There will also be links to places where the films can be purchased online and the chance to recommend titles to friends.

Filmies chief executive Neil McClure, pictured right, said: “We are trying to be the equivalent of a price comparison website – but for films.

“The idea came about through personal experience, really. The recommendations on ‘what to watch next’ that you get from the likes of Netflix and Amazon just don’t seem to recognise that what you might want to watch as a family on a Friday night is going to be different from what you’re looking for with a bunch of mates on a Sunday afternoon.”

Filmies is due to be launched in the next couple of weeks and will be available on iOS and Android and also as a web app.
